Time for a post. First of brother came up to New York to film a wedding and be the photographer. So while he was in the state he paid me a visit. I haven't seen my brother in over two years after I was really sick. Here is a picture of me and my brother Chuck aka Charles...hehe

Also I finished my tatted hat from Jan Stawasz's book. The pattern is on pages 56 and 57. I used Marilee Rockley's ( Yarnplayer ) hand dyed thread in colorway Lola. I mixed some solid Lizbeth colors that were in the Lola colorway. The thread was size 10 that the pattern called for. My husband told me he like this hat better than the other hat that I made last year...which is ruined. My other tatted hat had some brown on it and since it was stiffed already I couldn't get the stain off orthe stiffner out. So the hat is ruined. I still have it. Maybe I will cut some of the motifs out of it and use it for a small purse or something or just toss it out.

So now I am thinking of lining this hat with a soft very pale pinkish purple lilacy ( is there such a word) material. Don't know how I will stiff it yet. I am thinking of using somekind of fusiable stiffer. I don't know yet...if you can tell me a way to stiffen my hat without sugar and maintains it stiffness even in the swelting humid heat of the south please let me know. I don't want to ruin this hat too.

With so little time theses days this is all I have managed to get done.Anyhow, what do you think of my new hat?

Love those colors!

Does it need to be stiffened? It looks in the pictures like it's holding its shape pretty well. If you do want to do that, I have had good luck with Aleene's Stiffen Quick. It sprays on, you can determine how stiff to make it by how many coats you use, and it washes out if you need it to.

Hi Sherry,
When I was reading I thought I hope Sherry used the colors in the same way as she did in the dolly of Ben Fikkert.
At that moment I couldn't see the hat I say this because booth the patterns are tatted in white by the designers. When I saw the hat Yes she did it.
The hat is great and by using the colors in this way The beauty of the spaces in the pattern are still there.
BTW ask Martha How she stiffened her Hat or maybe you can blow up a balloon in the hat and use than textile starch
hugs see you in august

Your hat is phenominal! You should enter it into a contest to be judged. It is so unique - a prize winner for sure!

Oh, NICE! I really like it! I usually use Mod Podge when I stiffen. I used it on the Mad Hatter hat on my knitting blog. I don't use it straight, I water it down to sort of a milky consistancy, then pat it out with paper towels so you don't see the white of the Mod Podge, then put it in the shape you want and let it dry. That 10" tall hat stayed up and you couldn't see the stiffener.

I like the way your hat sits on your head and the many motifs you have tatted. Very interesting. I have just finished a jacket and it takes a long time when there is so much to do in the summer!

It is beautiful, and also the colors. I am trying to make one too, but my doubt is how to make it stiff. The thread is for crochet number 20. Any ideas?

That's a lovely hat. How many miles of tatting do you think you've done over the years?
